The staff were very friendly. My favourite thing about this hotel is its character and size. I’m not keen on staying in large establishments, this is a converted section of a very old building and in total there are only nine rooms. Yes, it is old, and some noise travels, but the character really makes it worth the day. The rooms are gorgeous and very large, generous proportions. Despite the age of the building, the soundproofing of the windows and shutters are quite good. We had the windows open in the afternoons when we returned from our walks, and the square felt quite loud. But the windows did a great job of shutting that out at night time. The staff were extremely kind and left a small bottle of wine and a slice of cake, with a hand- written note for my husband‘s birthday. That extra touch would make me come back there any time. The breakfast is small, but perfectly adequate. Hot food includes scrambled eggs and bacon, there are pastries, yoghurt and fruit available. There is a kettle and coffee maker in the room, the water bottle is replaced daily. There is a mini bar, which we did not require, but I did use the fridge keep some milk in, as being Irish and British we like real tea. Robes and slippers are also provided, The shower had great pressure and was always really warm. It was enough to keep us going, the breakfast room is so small and cute and feels more personal than some of the big hotels. The location is just around the corner from an underground station, as well as tram stops on the square. Just FYI- you can easily get the metro/underground here from the airport, only one line change. We found this to be a perfect base and did a lot of walking. Some restaurants nearby are excellent, I would recommend the little wine bar next-door to the right (as you stand facing the hotel) and the Asian restaurant to the left.

The staff was amazing! Emails prior to our arrival were answered quickly and our room request of twin beds was honored. Staff made reservations for our dinner our first night there and the day staff had wonderful recommendations for how to see the city. Breakfast both days was amazing, with so many options - so good to have eggs after so many days of walking the Camino. We had an unfortunate experience the morning we left. Having booked a taxi the night before to the airport - the taxi never came. The staff called every taxi company and were so stressed on our behalf - even running down the street to try and hail a taxi for us. In the end it all worked out - and we did catch our flight (without a giving them a proper thank you) So...Thank you! I can't say enough about this hotel, the location and, most importantly, the staff!

The location was perfect to get around the city; the room was spacious and clean; the breakfast was the perfect way to start the day; the staff was exceptional! Daniel was always there to offer great suggestions for restaurants and calling ahead to make reservations. He is very knowledgeable about Portugal’s history and culture and shared much valuable information. Catarina was so kind and quite knowledgeable as well. She made excellent recommendations about our trips to Sintra, Belem and Oporto. They were genuinely interested in our having the best experience in Portugal.

Bordalo Palace is in a super location with good restaurants, bars and shops just on the doorstep and transport options also very close by. Also a very quiet location despite having a restaurant just below our window but it closed at a reasonable time. Room was very spacious, clean and comfortable with all necessary amenities. Breakfast was a mixed array each morning but also tasty. Staff were excellent throughout from check in to local tips and help g with extra coffee each morning. No hesitation to fully recommend.

The building is over two hundred years old but has been well maintained. The room we stayed in was very spacious and had a lot of style. We booked a large room for a four-night stay, and it exceeded our expectations. It felt like we were staying in a cool guest room of a castle. The hotel is in a great location, with many local restaurants, attractions, and boutique stores within walking distance. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff gave us a warm and personal welcome. It was such a great stay!
